Happy New Year! I hope everyone is settling into January, life returning to a normal pace. For my family this means travel, registering for school, running, getting ready to move, and… continuing to build/refine my kitchen skills. My thirty-year-old self would be shocked to learn I enjoy cooking so much!
Can I tell you a secret? Just after Christmas I told my family I’m going to give Vegan a try, for the month of January. I know this doesn’t sound like a huge leap since I do not eat eggs or meat… BUT, I love cheese, and I can’t imagine starting my day without a whole milk latte!
After two weeks, I lost a few pounds while eating almost twice as much food. I have seen health benefits, and feel great.
Week three: feeling better outweighs my love of cheese but I miss whole milk. Replacing my morning coffee with a smoothie.
In recent years, I have added several accessories to my kitchen pantry - from Dehydrators to Food Processors, Cold Press Juicers, Roclette, and more. I have been reading cookbooks and experimenting. We entertain so much that it’s no longer newsworthy. And, I’ve become confident in the kitchen. I want to learn how to make soup in a blender. Find a few new go-to entertaining recipes that will be a lovely surprise to dinner guests.
My inspiration to take the leap came from a cookbook I received on Christmas morning.
I have been cooking from it every day.

I devoured every page of this book during a recent family road trip. Reading recipes out loud to my family. Enjoying the author's notes/stories from page to page. In recent years cookbooks have been my go-to books. Often part memoir/lifestyle, part recipes, part educational. Oh She Glows Every Day fits this mold.
The recipes in this cookbook are easy to follow, simple yet flavorful. If you know me well, or have followed me for a few years, you know I cook and bake… a lot. I’m also not overwhelmed in the kitchen. The recipes in this book are simple and easy to follow. Forgiving.
The Morning detox smoothie is amazing.
The Thai Carrot Ginger soup is my families new favorite meal. I have made it twice in the last few weeks.
The chocolate dreams protein smoothie tastes like a milkshake.
The best part of these recipes is that you can modify to what is currently in your pantry.
I have had a few personal failures in the kitchen over the last few weeks.
The first was substituting raw nuts with roasted didn’t deliver the best result.
Have you tried Nutritional Yeast? After making two recipes, I can tell you that I do not enjoy this ingredient. Just last night I made the cheese sauce and wasn’t able to eat much of it.
That’s okay. I’m enjoying experimenting, learning new cooking styles, and I can’t wait to serve the Carrot Ginger soup for guests. Have you tried cooking from this cookbook?
I’m looking for a pumpkin soup made without onions. If you happen to have a recipe, please share it.
Buy this one. You will enjoy it!
